The Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) has opened applications for postgraduate admission for the 2026/2027 academic session, with programmes available at Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy levels.
The School of Postgraduate Studies has programmes in health sciences, biological sciences, computing, pharmacy and related fields, including Drug Production & Vaccinology, Human & Medical Genetics and Forensic Accounting, Auditing & Fraud Investigation. The programmes are available through physical and hybrid modes.
The application period begins on Monday, 17 August 2026 and closes on Friday, 2 October 2026.

General FUHSO Postgraduate Admission Requirements
Every applicant seeking admission into a FUHSO postgraduate programme must have at least five credit passes in relevant subjects, including English and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings in WASC, NECO or GCE.
Nigerian applicants must also provide evidence of completion of the National Youth Service Corps programme or a certificate of exemption or exclusion.
Applicants must also meet the academic requirements attached to the particular level of study.
Postgraduate Diploma Admission Requirements
A candidate seeking admission into a PGD programme must have a minimum of a Third-Class Bachelor’s degree in the relevant or related discipline specified by the department or institute.
An applicant with an HND at a minimum of Lower Credit in a relevant discipline may also be considered, subject to FUHSO Postgraduate Board regulations.
The department may require the candidate to pass a written or oral interview.
Master’s Degree Admission Requirements
Applicants for M.Sc. programmes must hold a Bachelor’s degree, MBBS, BDS, B.NSc, BMLS, D.Pharm. or an equivalent qualification specified by the relevant department or institute.
The minimum degree classification is Second-Class Lower Division.
A candidate with a PGD and a CGPA of at least 3.00/5.00, together with a Third-Class Bachelor’s degree or an HND at a minimum of Lower Credit, may also be considered.
Applicants may be required to pass a written or oral interview determined by the department.
Ph.D. Admission Requirements
Applicants for Ph.D. admission must meet the postgraduate academic thresholds stated by FUHSO.
An applicant with an academic Master’s degree and an overall average of 60% or above or CGPA of at least 4.00/5.00, falls within the Ph.D. grade.
An applicant with 55% to 59% or a CGPA of 3.50 to 3.99/5.00, falls within the MPhil/Ph.D. grade. Such a candidate will be required to conduct an approved research pilot study, present the findings at a seminar and submit a report assessed through a conversion examination. The required pass mark is 60% and the process must be completed within nine months before admission into the Ph.D. programme can be considered.
Candidates with an M.Phil grade of 50% to 54% or CGPA of 3.00 to 3.49/5.00, will be required to complete an approved research study within 12 months, present the findings at a seminar and defend the thesis orally. A pass mark of 60% and one published article are required before Ph.D. admission can be considered.
Medical doctors who have passed the Part I Fellowship Examination, in addition to holding an MBBS degree, may be admitted directly into Ph.D. programmes.
Each Ph.D. applicant must also:
- Submit a concept note or preliminary proposal of at least 500 words in the chosen area of specialisation.
- Pass a written or oral interview if required by the department.
FUHSO Postgraduate Programme Duration
The study period depends on the programme and whether the student is registered full-time or part-time.
Postgraduate Diploma
- Full-Time: Minimum of two semesters and maximum of four semesters
- Part-Time: Minimum of three semesters and maximum of six semesters
Master’s Degree
- Full-Time: Minimum of three semesters and maximum of five semesters
- Part-Time: Minimum of five semesters and maximum of eight semesters
Doctor of Philosophy
- Full-Time: Minimum of six semesters and maximum of eight semesters
- Part-Time: Minimum of eight semesters and maximum of ten semesters
Any extension beyond the maximum study period requires Senate approval based on a recommendation from the department, faculty and School of Postgraduate Studies.
FUHSO Postgraduate Application Fee
The application fee is ₦25,000.
The payment is non-refundable and will be made in favour of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo through Remita.
FUHSO Postgraduate Application Procedure
Eligible candidates can complete the application through the university website.
The application process is:
- Pay the non-refundable ₦25,000 application fee through Remita in favour of Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo.
- Visit the FUHSO website.
- Select the 2026/2027 Postgraduate Application option.
- Complete the postgraduate online application form.
- Upload all required credentials in JPEG format.
Applicants should make sure the information submitted matches the supporting credentials.
Referee Reports
Every applicant must request reference letters from three referees.
Two of the referees must be academics who know the applicant’s academic ability.

FUHSO Postgraduate School Fees
The published fees cover one academic session of two semesters and include tuition and laboratory fees.

The transcript must reach FUHSO no later than three weeks after the deadline for the sale of application forms.
An application will not be processed if the School of Postgraduate Studies does not receive the transcript within the stated period.
Admission Through Inter-University Transfer
FUHSO allows postgraduate admission through inter-university transfer where the applicant meets the minimum admission requirements for the intended programme.
Previously earned course credits may be transferred where the learning outcomes and course contents are the same as the corresponding FUHSO courses.
Credits for FUHSO General Postgraduate Courses, seminars and a research project or thesis cannot be transferred.
Registration After Admission
Successful applicants are expected to register their postgraduate courses immediately after admission has been offered.

Thesis and Dissertation Requirement
Every thesis and dissertation must pass the university’s plagiarism and artificial intelligence test before it can be used for graduation.
