NECO GCE Registration Form at a Glance
NECO GCE 2026 registration has opened and the examination has been fixed for 25 November to 12 December.

The National Examinations Council has opened registration for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination External, commonly called NECO GCE.
The examination will use a dual format across 16 selected subjects, comprising hybrid Computer-Based Examination and Pen-and-Paper Examination. Registration includes online account creation and offline biometric capture.
Prospective candidates may register through the NECO SSCE External registration portal.
When will NECO GCE registration begin and close?
Regular registration began on 7 July 2026 and will close at 12 midnight on 17 November 2026.
Candidates who miss the regular period may register from 18 to 24 November 2026, but an extra late registration fee of ₦5,000 will be charged.
Walk-in registration will also be available at ₦43,000 per candidate.

Stamp duty, service charges and Remita charges will apply to the regular registration fee.
How much is the NECO GCE form for 2026?
The registration fee is ₦30,000.
This amount includes a four-figure mathematical table and a waterproof certificate jacket or folder. Stamp duty, service charges and Remita charges are separate.
Payments are non-refundable. Candidates should therefore check their details and confirm that they are ready to register before payment is completed.
When will the 2026 NECO GCE examination hold?
The examination will be held from Wednesday, 25 November to Saturday, 12 December 2026.
Candidates will be required to collect or print the official timetable after completing registration. Each candidate should arrive at the examination venue at least 30 minutes before the start of every subject or paper.
Entry will not be allowed after a paper has started.
Will the 2026 NECO GCE be computer-based?
The 2026 SSCE External examination will use two examination formats:
- Hybrid Computer-Based Examination
- Pen-and-Paper Examination
The dual mode will apply to the 16 selected subjects listed for the examination.
A candidate’s NECO photocard will be required for entry into the Computer-Based Examination centre or examination hall.
Who can register for the NECO SSCE External examination?
Registration is open to prospective candidates who intend to sit the 2026 SSCE External examination.
Every candidate will be required to provide valid personal information, a recent passport photograph and a valid National Identification Number. Biometric fingerprints will also be captured before registration is completed.
Candidates with special needs may register through the same process. The nature of each candidate’s need must be stated correctly while the biodata form is being completed online.
What will be required for NECO GCE registration?
A candidate will need the following details and materials:
- A working email address or phone number
- A valid National Identification Number
- A recent passport photograph
- Correct personal and examination details
- Payment for the registration quota
- Access to a reputable cybercafe for fingerprint capture
The passport photograph must have a white background and must not be more than six months old.
A system camera may be used to take the photograph during registration, where required.
Is a National Identification Number required?
A valid National Identification Number must be entered before registration can be completed.
The NIN should belong to the candidate and must be entered correctly. The number will later be inscribed on the candidate’s certificate.
Candidates should check every digit before their data is uploaded.
Is biometric fingerprint capture compulsory?
Biometric fingerprint capture is compulsory for each candidate.
The fingerprints will be captured during the offline stage of registration. Biometric verification will also be carried out during the examination.
A candidate whose fingerprint or passport photograph does not match the registration record may be treated as an impersonator. Such a candidate will be sanctioned under existing laws.
How will candidates register for NECO GCE 2026?
The registration process includes online and offline stages.
Candidates should create an account, purchase a registration quota and enter their biodata online. They must then visit a reputable cybercafe for fingerprint capture and completion of the registration.
Step 1: Open the registration portal
The candidate should visit the NECO SSCE External registration portal.
The correct SSCE External section should be selected.
Step 2: Create an account
An account should be created with an email address or phone number.
The account must be activated before payment and registration can continue.
Step 3: Purchase a registration quota
The candidate or cybercafe registration point should pay into the NECO Treasury Single Account through the available payment options.
Payment should be confirmed before biodata is entered.
Step 4: Complete the biodata form
The candidate’s correct name, date of birth, NIN and other required details should be entered.
Candidates with special needs should state the nature of their needs at this stage.
Step 5: Provide a passport photograph
A recent passport photograph with a white background should be uploaded.
The photograph must be clear and should not be more than six months old. A system camera may also be used at the registration point.
Step 6: Complete biometric fingerprint capture
The candidate must be physically present at a reputable cybercafe for fingerprint capture.
A registration operator should not complete this stage without the candidate.
Step 7: Check every entry
The candidate should review the spelling and order of the names, NIN, photograph, subject choices and examination neighbourhood.
All entries made by the cybercafe should be checked before upload.
Step 8: Upload the registration data
The registration data may be uploaded after the candidate has confirmed that the details are correct.
The selected examination neighbourhood cannot be changed after upload.
Step 9: Collect the photocard and timetable
The candidate should obtain the examination timetable and at least one clear copy of the NECO photocard from the cybercafe.
The photocard photograph must be clear enough for identification at the examination venue.
Which payment options are available?
Candidates and registration points may pay through any of these options:
- ATM card
- Internet banking
- USSD
- Wallet
- Bank branch
Payment will be made into the NECO Treasury Single Account after an account has been created and activated on the registration portal.
What is the NECO photocard used for?
The NECO photocard will be used to admit the candidate into the Computer-Based Examination centre or examination hall.
The photograph printed on the card must be clear. A photocard with an unclear passport photograph will not be accepted at the examination centre.
Candidates should obtain at least one clear copy after registration.
Who can sign the referee’s attestation section?
The referee’s attestation section of the photocard must be signed and stamped by one of the approved persons below:
- The principal of a recognised secondary school
- An ordained clergyman or a chief imam
- A commissioned officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces or Police, not below Captain or its equivalent
- A senior civil servant not below Grade Level 14
- A legal practitioner with at least ten years of experience
Candidates are no longer required to submit the attestation or photocard to a NECO state office for stamping.
How will candidates select an examination centre?
Examination centres within each state have been grouped into neighbourhoods.
Each candidate should select a neighbourhood within the state where the examination will be taken. The examination neighbourhood cannot be edited after the registration data has been uploaded.
The photocard should be reprinted no later than two weeks before the examination. This will allow the candidate to confirm the assigned examination centre.
Can the examination neighbourhood be changed?
The selected examination neighbourhood cannot be changed after upload.
Candidates should check the state and neighbourhood carefully before approving their registration details. A cybercafe operator should upload the form only after the candidate has confirmed the selection.
What subjects are available for the 2026 NECO GCE?

Candidates should select the subjects needed for their intended purpose and confirm each choice before upload.
Will NECO conduct a mock examination?
A mock examination will be arranged for interested candidates.
NECO will communicate the schedule before the main examination. The supplied notice does not give the mock examination date or registration process.
Can registration details be corrected after upload?
Candidates are entitled to a one-time correction before the examination begins.
A complete change of name will not be accepted. A candidate may correct only one part of the name, such as the surname, first name or middle name or change the passport photograph, along with other registration data.
Both a name element and passport photograph cannot be corrected under the same one-time correction request.
A passport photograph can be changed only before the examination begins.
What should candidates check before registration data is uploaded?
Every candidate should check:
- The spelling and order of all names
- The National Identification Number
- The passport photograph
- The date of birth
- The selected subjects
- The selected examination state and neighbourhood
- Any special-needs information entered
- The payment and registration status
The Council will not accept responsibility for errors made by candidates or cybercafe operators.
Use of a reputable cybercafe is recommended, but the candidate remains responsible for checking the submitted information.
What is walk-in registration?
Walk-in registration allows a candidate to register close to the time of a chosen subject.
The fee is ₦43,000 per candidate. Registration must be completed at least three hours before the subject the candidate intends to write.
A walk-in candidate must still meet the registration, identification and biometric requirements.
What rules will apply at the examination centre?
Candidates must dress in mufti and arrive at least 30 minutes before each paper.
The following items and conduct are prohibited:
- Smoking
- Mobile phones
- Programmable calculators
- Tablets and iPads
- Smart wristwatches
- Smart glasses or pens
- Other electronic communication gadgets
- Arms of any kind
No candidate will be admitted after the examination has started.
Can a candidate register more than once?
Multiple registration is prohibited.
A candidate who registers more than once will have the entire examination results cancelled. Each candidate should therefore create and complete only one registration record.
Will the passport photograph and NIN appear on the certificate?
The passport photograph uploaded during registration will be embossed on the certificate.
The candidate’s NIN will also be inscribed on the certificate. This makes accurate registration details and identity verification necessary.
What should candidates collect after registration?
Each candidate should obtain the following from the cybercafe:
- The examination timetable
- At least one clear NECO photocard
The photocard must contain a clear photograph and a completed referee’s attestation section. It will be presented before entry into the examination centre or hall.
What should candidates read before the examination?
Candidates should study the examination rules, regulations and syllabus before the first paper.
