We received the news concerning the temporary restriction of movement at the South Gate due to the ongoing renovation with displeasure. The Students’ Union immediately engaged the Director of Physical Planning and other relevant stakeholders to obtain firsthand information and ensure that the welfare and convenience of our students remain a priority.
After our engagement, we were informed that the restriction is necessary to facilitate the decking phase of the project.
Consequently, vehicles and motorcycles will not be permitted to use the South Gate during this period. It is important to note that this arrangement is strictly temporary and will only remain in place until the decking phase of the project is completed.
Once the work is concluded, normal vehicular movement through the South Gate will be restored. However, pedestrian access remains fully open. Students will continue to have unhindered access on foot through the South Gate and will be able to board the campus shuttle buses as the approved modality for movement.
As an administration driven by the ideals of the Blueprint Consortium, we do not take lightly any development that affects the daily lives of our students. Every concern raised by Futarians is taken seriously, and we will continue to engage the appropriate authorities to ensure that students’ interests are protected while necessary developmental projects are carried out.
We understand the inconvenience this temporary measure may cause, but we are confident that the project will ultimately deliver a safer and better access road for the entire University community.
