The published marks are arranged under Merit, Catchment and ELDS, giving candidates a course-by-course view of the scores used for the admission exercise.

UI Merit, Catchment and ELDS Cut-Off Marks

UI departmental cut-off marks are grouped under three admission categories: Merit, Catchment and ELDS.

The admission ratio provided for these categories is 45:35:20.

Merit

Merit accounts for 45% and applies to top-scoring candidates based on aggregate scores from UTME and Post UTME.

The Merit category is open to applicants regardless of state of origin.

Catchment

Catchment accounts for 35% and is reserved for applicants from designated states around the university.

This category gives regional preference to candidates from the specified catchment states.

ELDS

ELDS means Educationally Less Developed States and accounts for 20%.

The category is set aside for candidates from states with lower school enrolment or fewer graduates, with the aim of supporting balance in access to university education.

Comparing a Score With the UI Departmental Cut-Off Mark

A candidate should first locate the intended course, then compare the relevant aggregate score with the figure listed under the applicable admission category.

Merit applies regardless of state of origin, while Catchment and ELDS are separate admission categories with their own published figures. The figures can differ sharply for some courses, so the correct column matters when reading the list.

Medicine and Surgery, for example, has a Merit and Catchment mark of 80.00, while its ELDS mark is 73.5. Software Engineering has 75.375 under Merit and Catchment, compared with 57.875 under ELDS.
Candidates should use the exact figure listed for their chosen course rather than relying on the mark for another department.
